Founding Engineer
About the company
At Fitted, we help early-stage startups build teams that truly fit their product, culture, and stage.
We're currently working with an early-stage cybersecurity SaaS startup building a new way to approach Cloud Security Operations.
Cybersecurity workflows today are fragmented, reactive, and hard to scale. This team is tackling that problem from first principles — building a product that helps companies better understand, process, and act on security data.
The company is founded by an experienced security leader who has worked at Fortune 500 level and is now building the product he wished existed. The team is small, highly technical, and product-focused, with a strong emphasis on ownership, impact, and collaboration.
About the role
As a Founding Engineer, you'll help build and scale the core systems behind the product — working across backend services, data pipelines, and product features.
You'll be part of a small, talent-dense team, contributing directly to how the product is designed and built, with high exposure to real-world customer problems.
The role combines product thinking with deep technical challenges — from building distributed systems and handling large volumes of security data, to navigating ambiguity and making pragmatic decisions in a fast-moving environment.
This is a hands-on, end-to-end role where you'll be involved across the stack — from infrastructure and backend systems to product features — with the opportunity to expand into areas like data, security, or research over time.
What you'll do
- Build and maintain backend services that integrate with multiple security tools and external systems
- Design and scale distributed systems for processing and enriching large volumes of security data
- Develop asynchronous data pipelines and ensure reliability across complex workflows
- Build analytics capabilities that generate actionable insights from security data
- Contribute to product decisions by understanding user needs and navigating ambiguity
- Work across the stack when needed, contributing to both backend and product-facing features
- Participate in improving system reliability, observability, and overall performance
Who you are
Must-haves:
- 5+ years of experience in product engineering, building and maintaining production systems
- Strong experience with TypeScript and its ecosystem
- Experience building and maintaining data-heavy integrations with third-party systems
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and failure handling
- Experience with observability, debugging, and cloud-based environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including with non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable taking ownership across different parts of the stack in an early-stage environment
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Go, Kotlin, or Python
- Interest in cybersecurity or data-intensive domains
- Experience working on systems with complex data pipelines
- Curiosity to explore adjacent areas such as data science or security research
What's in it for you
- Fully remote (within UTC ±3)
- Competitive salary + equity
- 20 days of annual leave + local holidays
- High ownership and impact in a small, senior team
- Opportunity to expand into adjacent areas such as data science or security research
How the team works
- Fully remote, async-first environment
- Quarterly offsites in Western Europe (team meetups, hackathons, product sessions)
- Small, high-calibre, and collaborative team — no "brilliant jerks"
- High ownership, with exposure across product, infrastructure, and customer problems
Why join now
- Early-stage product with real technical depth and complexity
- Opportunity to work on meaningful problems in cybersecurity
- Small, talent-dense team with strong product and engineering mindset
